Dreaming in Living Color

As previously noted in this very blog, Wil does the strangest things in his sleep. Most of these strange things stem from his dreams.

For instance, a few nights ago he went to bed before me. I came into the room, climbed into bed and was just turning out the light when he opened his eyes, squinted at me and said, "how do they make it so yellow?" Completely confused, I said, "what?" "It's so yellow." "What???" "Never mind." "No really, what do you mean it's yellow." To which he responded with uninterpretable mumblings, rolled over and went back to sleep.

He was dreaming, although he can't remember what about and all I know is that whatever his dream was about, it must have been excessively yellow.

While we were in Disneyland, and sleeping at the amazingly wonderful Hilton with a bedroom, full bathroom and living room/desk area/sink and fridge area that were all separate from each other and that had one of the MOST comfortable beds ever, especially for a hotel and that we only paid $50/night for because we got it on Priceline.com....

Sorry, I got distracted. While we were in Disneyland I was innocently sleeping on my side of the bed. The covers were over me, but I wasn't hogging them like usual - I just had my fair share amount. I was minding my own business when suddenly the covers were violently ripped off of me and thrown on the floor.

Wil wasn't using them. In the process of ripping the covers off of me, he ripped them off of himself as well. I woke up, perturbed by the sudden an uncalled for loss of covers. So, I did what any normal, loving wife would do. I poked Wil and said, somewhat groggily, "give me back the covers." Please imagine me half propped up on my elbow, eyes squinting from just having been woken up and highly annoyed. Wil, "what?"

Yes, I am noticing a trend about how profound we are in our sleep... "Give me back the COVERS," please read this statement in a somewhat whiny, sleepy and nasally voice. "What?" "The COVERS. You STOLE the COVERS!" "Oh."

Apparently, he was having a dream that he was stuck on a ride at Disneyland and couldn't get off. The covers must have been the safety bar or door to the ride because he was finally able to rip it open and free himself from the ride. So after he woke up enough to figure out what I was saying, he told me his dream, I giggled, he restored the covers to their rightful place and I went back to sleep.

I don't think I've ever known someone who acted out their dreams. I would love to watch him run in his sleep...maybe I'll put in a request! :-)

Tortillas

I have always wanted to go to the tortilla factory at California Adventure, but have never been able to talk anyone into going with me. Luckily, I was able to talk Wil into it. They give you a free, hot out of the tortilla maker tortilla at the end, and it was delicious!

Did you know...

Americans eat more than 82.6 billion tortillas each year and that the fastest growing sector of the U.S. baking industry is the tortilla industry? Well, now you do!

Favorite Rides

Disneyland was a bit more crowded than I like it to be, but it wasn't awful. That being said...there are only five rides that we went on more than once, and zero rides that we went on more than twice.

Rides we liked, so we went on them twice:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean - Wil thought this ride was really cool. I thought this ride was better before they added the Captain Jack Sparrow parts, but it's still a Disney classic!

2. Thunder Mountain Railroad - my friend Nancy taught me that this ride is best ridden in the dark. So we rode once in the day and once in the dark. It is SO much cooler in the dark. Not to mention we rode it while the fireworks were going off in the background. If you thought this ride was cool in the dark, it was even better with fireworks!

Rides we LOVED, so we went on them twice:

1. Space Mountain - this is my all time FAVORITE ride at Disneyland. All. Time. Favorite! It has been for as long as I can remember and was closed for renovations the last two times I was at Disneyland. It is still just as cool as it has ever been!

2. Tower of Terror - this was by far Wil's FAVORITE ride! He loved it. So we went twice. I was actually more nervous the second time than the first time (we waited until dark to try this one out the second time). It's about the same coolness level in the day or at night. The best part of this ride the second time was watching the camera, which Wil had strapped around his body, float.

3. Toy Story Midway Mania - yes, I realize this is a little kid ride...however, it was a kid ride that fed on our competitive spirits. We waited in line for 45 minutes (that's right, folks; there were no fast passes for this one) TWICE to go on this ride we liked it that much.

Our first time on this ride Wil beat me. But I was DETERMINED to stage a comeback the second time around. I was ahead the entire time, after every section of the game/ride ended...UNTIL the very end!

At the very end, they put a big target in front of you and let you go at it as fast as you can. No accuracy needed, you just have to pull the cord FAST! Wil apparently is faster than me at pulling the cord, because this is where he pulled ahead. Please note, at least my accuracy was better than his! (I am red).

The winner!

At least I won on the Buzz Lightyear ride in Tomorrowland. Look how serious we both were!

I wish the Toy Story ride took your picture like the Buzz Lightyear ride, because I'll bet we looked even more intense.

Animation Studio

One of my favorite parts of California Adventure is the Animation Studio - I think that's what it is called. They had a class in the animation studio that taught you how to draw different characters. I went in, found out what it was (last time I went it was something completely different) and thought oh no, I'm a sucky drawer...this is not going to be very much fun. However, if we would have had time, I would have gone back to learn how to draw another character. They made it so easy even I could do it...and without any tracing!

We learned how to draw Donald Duck.

Here's what he's supposed to look like:

Here's mine:

And here's Wil's:

Not too shabby, if I do say so myself! How cool are we?

Also in the Animation Studio is a place where you can take a quiz to find out which Disney character you are most like.

This is Wil finding out which character he is most like.

The answer? Wil is most like...

Buzz Lightyear. Do you see the resemblance?

And I am most like...

Jane from Tarzan...does she have a last name?

Tom Sawyer's Island

It's funny how you can get in a rut of doing the same things every time you go to Disneyland. But, there are several things you have never done.

Would you believe I'd never been on the Matterhorn until my freshman year of college? I got to do several things I've never done before while we were on this trip.

1. Tiki Room - in the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room; in the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room; all the birds sing words and the flowers bloom in the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room.

  • Two stories about the Tiki Room. First, I have no problem with breast feeding. It's healthier for the baby, I plan to do it myself some day, yadda, yadda. However, when breast feeding in public it is customary to cover yourself with something. A blanket, a jacket, I don't really care what you cover yourself with as long as you cover yourself with SOMETHING! At home, do it however you want, I don't care. In the Tiki Room at Disneyland you should REALLY cover yourself up. I SAW boob on the lady sitting next to me breast feeding her child with no cover. There were children in the room...and men...and random women she didn't know, not to mention singing birds, flowers and totem poles - all of these factors dictate the necessity of covering yourself while breastfeeding!

  • Second story. I could not figure out why I'd never been to the Tiki Room before. Then I went. Now I know. End of story.

2. Tom Sawyer's Island - which is actually no longer Tom Sawyer's Island. It is now called the Pirate's Lair. It was the COOLEST place ever! You could crawl through all the caves and up the stairs and there were bridges and things you could talk into and people heard you at the bottom and treasure and skeletons. It was pretty much awesome!

Wil giggled the entire way across this bridge on Tom Sawyer's Island. It was held up by barrels and when you would walk over a barrel the bridge would go up and when you were between barrels the bridge would go down. Wil liked it so much I had to take his picture!

This is us on the ferry waiting to cross the lake back to Disneyland and away from Tom Sawyer's Island. I thought the shadow picture was cool and it's my blog so I'm posting it here.

3. Canoes - I've always seen people canoeing around Tom Sawyer's Island but I've never actually done it. Wil and I had great fun in the canoes. Wil's never been in any kind of canoe before so he thought it was especially cool. Bucket list: ride in canoe - check!

We thought we were really funny...the junior high girls in front of us didn't think we were quite as funny. But we had fun...and that's all that really matters.

Us. On the canoe. You can't see the canoe, just the top part of the paddle, but I promise we were sitting in a canoe.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

Wil has not been to Disneyland since he was a baby, so he doesn't remember Disneyland. I have been to Disneyland upteen zillion times because I LOVE Disneyland! So, the only logical thing to do was to take Wil to Disneyland this weekend and force him to like it! :-)

Random side note...if you ever want a picture in front of the Mickey Mouse head at the entrance, wait until about 9 p.m. There was no one there so we get to be the only two people in our picture! One other random side note...Wil thought it was the coolest that the head was made out of flowers when we first walked in, that's when I knew he was going to LOVE this place!

I never thought about how much pressure that might be...I mean considering it is the happiest place on earth (which Wil thinks is just silly) and it's one of my favorite places on earth...what if he didn't like it?

Luckily, he loved it and we had a blast. I have fully converted him to how great Disneyland is, and even mangaed to convince him that you can do a ton more fun stuff when you don't have little kids with you.

I think we rode every non-little kid ride there was and walked back and forth through the park a lot! In fact, I'm not sure I've every played so hard at Disneyland. I was exhausted by the time we left both nights; but it was totally and completely worth it!!!

Waiting in line for Indiana Jones.

Couch Cushions

I LOVE our couches - a love that is enhanced by the fact that they look brand new we were able to buy them both for less than one brand new couch would have cost. However, we have discovered that they are much more comfortable without the back cushions on them!

When we sit on the couch, we usually toss the cushions on the floor next to or behind the couch. The other day, we tossed them onto the love seat instead. The love seat is where Elvis usually sleeps, so when he was tired, he was forced to do this!

I think Wil and I both took a picture when we walked out and saw him like this, because there are about five of them on my camera!
