The Cashier

Many weeks ago, we went to one of our favorite local stores...which shall remain nameless to protect the innocent. When the cashier rang up our produce, he would count the number of peaches...apples...pears...or whatever and then look up at us and say, "five?" or "four?" or however many there were. To which we would lean over the counter, count and say, "yes, five."

As we left the store, Wil turned to me and said sarcastically, "yes, Billy there are five, way to go...you're learning to count." OK, so we're kind of mean...but it was that annoying!

Today, we went to said store to buy groceries. We stood in line, we forgot something so Wil went back to get it while I stood in line, and then we stood in line some more. First, you should note that there were two people in front of us when we got into the line...and the cashier was half way done with the first person by the time we got there. I looked at a few magazines...Wil and I talked and only after many, many minutes of standing in line did we realize we were still standing there and had not moved. Wil was wondering if we should have picked the kid with the terrible acne when we decided to place a bet as to what time we would get out of the store. It was 8:39 (please note we had already been in line at least 10 minutes, and the cashier was three-quarters of the way done ringing up the woman in front of us. I guessed 8:47, Wil guessed 8:52 and I said "NO WAY!" Thinking there was no humanly possible way it could take another 13 minutes for him to finish with the lady in front of us and then check us out.

We proceeded to watch and wait as the cashier looked for a coupon he had accidentally dropped through a crack in the counter. He searched and searched and searched and brought over the manager to look and find out what he should do and it was at this very moment that Wil started reading this out of desperation...

Yes, my friends, that's a Woman's Health!

The cashier apologized and then started to ring us up. He got to the avacadoes and said, "do you know how many you have?" Wil put them in the bag, so no, I didn't know how many we had. The cashier counted the avacadoes and said, "five?" and I thought...AH HAH! He's that guy...so I peaked over the counter, counted the avacadoes and said, "yes."

He then proceeded to tell me that we couldn't get the better price on several items because of some lame excuse that has NEVER EVER caused a problem for me before. I told him to keep the produce through a gritted teeth smile, but refrained from telling him what I really wanted to say, which was that he could stick the pineapple and honeydew up his rear!

And then we left...any guesses what time? Go ahead and guess...later, later, you're getting close, it was 9:03. We stood in line for at least THIRTY minutes! For two people! These were not day after Thanksgiving crowds at the store...at 8:30.. on a Monday night! Next time, we are going to the acne kid!

Wil and I came up with a new application to work at any type of grocery store. The first question will be, "how many avacadoes are in this bag?"

PS...while we were in said line a couple in the line next to us bought $1,200 worth of zhu zhu pets...they sell them on ebay for more than they pay for them at the store...they got there at almost the same time the cashier started ringing up our $80 worth of groceries and were done significantly before us!

Memory

I am amazed by Wil's memory. Last weekend we were at dinner and had the most fun conversation where I randomly quizzed him about things we had done. The conversation went something like this:

J - What did I wear on our first date?
W - That red shirt with the lines in it, jeans and black flip flops that had fancy stuff on the top...hey, you're wearing the same shoes now.
J - Yes, they were denim capris, but jeans is close enough.

J - What did we do on our fourth date? (for the record, I didn't remember the answer to this one, but thought I would ask anyway)
W - On our first date we went miniature golfing, our second date was to Guero and Nikki's to play games, our third date was to the movie to see Fantastic Four, so that makes our fourth date...Cold Stone for ice cream.
J - Wow! I'm impressed you remembered that, I didn't!

J - What did we do the second time you came to Utah to visit?
W - We went to the zoo, toured around Salt Lake and went on a carriage ride - that was a fun day!
J - That was the day when I asked if it was weird for you that I was white! (for the record, he said yes...but not too weird) :-)
W - That's right, when we were in the car after we left the mall downtown.

J - What did we do the night before our first kiss?
W - Umm...we...went to Arizona Mills and got those water massages and then went to a movie.
J - I loved the water massage!

J - When was the second time we held hands?
W - I don't know! When was it?
J - We went to Jamba Juice...you didn't hold my hand until we were done and walking back to the car. It was weird because we only held hands for about 30 seconds before we were at the car (it's not a very long walk from Jamba Juice to the parking lot).
W - That's right! And you told me you like your hand to be in the back, because it feels weird the other way.

And so my friends, I am turning the game over to you. Ask the most out of the blue question you can think of (that is rated PG), and see if we can remember. I'll bet you anything, one of us will remember (most likely Wil). It's a competition between Wil and me, the one of us who answers the most questions right wins!

Who Let the Dogs Out

We're babysitting this week...

At first, Elvis was totally jealous, but now I think he might actually miss my grandma's puppies when they go home.

I think this is the first time all week Jill got the bone!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to pose three dogs? I got the perfect picture, but then discovered my camera had shifted to a weird setting, so it's blurry. I think it looks like Elvis is a coon hound of Chinese decent in this photo!

A Tisket, A Tasket, A Pretty Yellow Basket

Tonight was my last night of cake decorating class. I finally took the second class this month with my visiting teacher and another girl in our ward. It was great fun! Look at those beautiful flowers, and the impressive basket weave! Yes, I am available for hire :0) or for friends and family that beg!

I am really enjoying learning how to decorate cakes. I'm even writing a blog post about it for our work blog...stay tuned, I think it will turn out to be a pretty fun post.

Take the Plunge

This morning, we were required to use the shiny new plunger we bought when we first got married for the first time. This is me, waiting for Wil to do it...because he won't do it when I'm in there...or when I'm close enough I can hear it. It reminds me of that comic who says when you first get first get married you're afraid to poop in front of each other, but when you've been married for a long time, you're just hoping to gross each other out.

Thought it was funny, and that in twenty years we'll look back and laugh so I should probably write it down.

Before and After, Table

I mentioned this project a week or so ago, and it's done - almost, we're thinking about putting a sealer on it, but it's done enough for now! :-)

We forgot to take a picture of the table before we started sanding it! Bummer! (or for my uncle, atones!)

Random side story: that's pronounced uh-tone-ace, and is the first word that comes up on our cell phones when we try to text message bummer (which we do a lot). We think it's odd, because how many people are more likely to want to text atones to each other than bummer? So now, we just text atones, when we mean bummer.

Now back to our regularly scheduled blog post. Since we forgot to take a picture before we started sanding (wish we would have, it was bad news!) we got a picture of it once it was all nice and sanded.

Pretty, but lacking something....oh yeah, the stain.

TA DA!

Now that's one fancy schmancy looking table! All it needs is a cute little lamp for next to our couches and it will be perfect!!! :-)

For Sale?

I found this taped to my car window. No Bob, my 1996 Toyota is not for sale, unless you are willing to pay far more than it is worth...enough that I would not have to make payments on a new Toyota.

Also, to the random man that drove up and asked, there are many gold Toyotas in the world. This one does not belong to your ex-wife/girlfriend. She does not live here, and I am obviously not her!

Boys & Their Toys

This weekend, we started a refinishing project. My grandma gave us a small table, chair and bench to keep, if we could make them beautiful.

Before...I forgot to take a before picture of the table.

Saturday, we cleaned the garage, broke out the trusty sandpaper and began our little project. Apparently, I am kind of naive about how long these sorts of things take. I thought...we'll clean our garage be done by noon, refinish the table, be done by about two (that's an hour to sand and an hour to refinish...yep, that should be enough time) and then shower so we can go play. Yeah...RIGHT.

We started sanding the table and sanded and sanded and sanded and in more than three hours got maybe one quarter of the way done, with just the sanding. Wil was talking about our table project at work and how he wished he had a sander (please note, when we started this project, and Wil broke out the sandpaper I said, "ok, where's the sander - can I use it?" Nope, no sander, just some good old fashioned sandpaper and our very own hands).

A guy at work took pity on him. Today, the man brought Wil a sander - apparently, he bought a bag of Ryobi tools (Wil's very favorite kind) at a yard sale and it came with several sanders. He was going to let Wil borrow one, but then decided he had no use for several and told Wil he could keep it.

This is Wil...tonight...playing with his new sander and sanding the table. He got home, walked out the door and got ready to start sanding. I think he likes his new toy!
